Regulatory Bodies

BBFC -

  • The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), previously the British Board of Film Censors, is a non-governmental organisation, founded by the film industry in 1912.
  • It's responsible for the national classification and censorship of films exhibited at cinemas and video works (such as television programmestrailersadvertspublic Information/campaigning films, menus, bonus content etc.) released on physical media within the United Kingdom.
  • The BBFC controls all the rating of films; for example This Is England was intended to be a 15 by the director but it did not match BBFC guidelines and therefore it was registered an 18, making it unwatchable for a majority of viewers even though the director wanted This Is England to be an example for young people not to follow and accessible for a young age.
IPSO -

  • IPSO is the largest independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry in the UK and exists to promote and uphold the highest professional standards of journalism in the UK, and to support members of the public in seeking redress where they believe that the Editors' Code of Practice has been breached.
  • IPSO handles complaints and conducts its own investigations into editorial standards and compliance. It also undertakes monitoring work, including by requiring publications to submit. IPSO has the power, where necessary, to require the publication of prominent corrections and critical adjudications, and may ultimately fine publications in cases where failings are particularly serious and systemic.
  • We can reduce the suicide rate by sending information about sensitive subjects across the world without revealing the sensitive information of the viewer's name thanks to IPSO.
ASA -
  • ASA is the self-regulatory organisation of the 
Regulations - 
  • Employment regulations are the laws that must be followed when handling relationships between employers and employees. It informs the employees on what they should expect from employees, what employers complaints are met, and what their rights are in the workplace.
  • It is important for media production companies that they follow employment regulations because the regulations must be followed and carried as if not followed it will bring great consequences to the company.
  • Health and safety regulations is that employers must carry out risk assessments which will eliminate or reduce risk to the employees involved. It is very important for the media production companies to carry out the health and safety regulations as this determines whether the environment.
  • BBFC covers all sorts of censorship which is crucial whilst managing films, TV shows and video games. For example, a film producer wants their film to be rated a 15 or 18 so they can get an understanding of the audience that they will gather on their film. 
Employment Tribunals
  • As employment tribunals is an independent adjudicator that can make a judgement either in favour of the employee or the employer and demand reparation from the employer if they are found at fault. 
Court
  • An employee has the right to sue their employer in court. The court will award the employee a settlement if they find in their favour. 
Health and Safety

  • maintenance of buildings and equipment

Regulations made under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 are all created on the presuppose for the betterment of work safety regulations and ensuring employee safety in a workplace.
